Rain Can’t Stop the Ride

It was a rainy Sunday morning when a handful of Innovative Fitness Vancouver decided to take on the mountain bike trails in Port Moody. Yes, it was raining. Yes, it was wet. Yes, it was less than ideal, but if you run and hide each time it rains you won’t have the opportunity to do many of the awesome activities that British Columbia has to offer!

Of those who came out for the ride, only half had ever been on a mountain bike, let alone done any trail riding. We started with a nice gentle warm-up along the shoreline before starting the gruelling uphill climb to get to the mountain bike trails. A couple of wrong turns and a few “bonus” hill climbs later we found ourselves on a (somewhat) technically challenging section of trail. Monitoring our heart rates closely, we took breaks each time a member of the group reached a workload that would not have been maintainable.

About half way through our planned ride the trails started to open up and we saw quite a bit more open flat terrain. This was a welcome change of pace from the grind it had been thus far and it allowed the riders to really open it up and have a ton of fun before hitting the next challenging section.

Once we found ourselves done the trail we had set out to complete we began the ride back to where we had parked out cars. Things heard on this section of the ride included: “that was tough, but I feel great now!” and “those guys who wimped out because of the rain missed out on a great ride”.

We rewarded ourselves for a (very wet) ride well done with cappuccinos as we reminisced about the challenge we had just accomplished together. Each person who came out on that rainy Sunday in July is currently preparing to take on the Dominion Lending Centres’ Adventure Challenge in Support of kids’ health, and every single one of us is now that much more confident in our preparedness to take on the challenge.

On September 12th we will be Kayaking, Mountain Biking, and Running our way towards a healthier future for Canada’s youth. What IF you could?
