Member of the Month: Brad Neumann from IF Kitsilano

Tell us about yourself, Brad!

I’ve worked for Methanex for a long time, spanning locations in Canada, New Zealand and Trinidad. I’m currently the VP Responsible Care at our corporate headquarters here in Vancouver, responsible for our Risk, Environmental and Sustainability programs.

I’ve been at IF Kitsilano for about four years, training with Ben Carr from the earliest days. It’s been great sharing the journey with him.

Why do you CHALLENGE yourself physically?

I’ve always been an athlete, and as I have gotten older I recognize the value of staying in the best shape I can, so I can keep on doing the things that I love to do.

What is your biggest ADVERSITY surrounding your fitness and what do you do to overcome it?

Generally I travel a lot for work, and it’s a real challenge to maintain an effective program while I’m on the road. Time zone changes, time spent in airplanes and airports, and restaurant foods all conspire to derail my efforts. It takes real focus to keep a healthy program going.

What has been your biggest VICTORY at Innovative Fitness?

I think it has to be all of 2016! I had struggled with an Achilles problem for 2 years and hadn’t run over that time. This year, injury management, a great training program at IF and Ben’s support all came together, and I killed three half-marathons, the Adventure Challenge and rode in the Tour de Victoria. It was one of those years!

What advice would you give someone thinking of starting a fitness program?

The only way you’ll sustain a fitness program for the long term is if you are doing it for yourself. Enjoy the journey, because it never ends, always hurts and pays huge dividends in your life.
